Abstract

This project aims to discuss how John R. Commons noticed and incorporated In his vision of the capitalist economy the challenges imposed by the new forms of typical capitalism wealth since the late XIX century. Characterized as incorporeal and intangible, such forms of wealth express a "dematerialization" of wealth since they do not present physical existence (as do tangible assets, types of machinery, and equipment, for example) and their value depends on the expected behavior in the future from the agents involved in the transactions. These forms of wealth represent theoretical challenges in, at least, two dimensions: the usage of time (mainly the future) and the references to attribute value to goods and rights.(AU)
