Abstract

The scientific research Project we intend to work on is a research in History of Economic Thought discipline. Its main subject is the contention between structuralisms and monetarists about inflation in Latin American countries, set during the 1950s and the 1960s. The core of the investigation is the analysis of the conference over inflation and development in Latin America, occurred in January 1963 in Rio de Janeiro. This conference, an important moment of the already mentioned controversy, was documented by Baer and Kerstenetzky (1964), in a volume which contains the discussions, the bibliographic production and the panel session. From this research material, we expect to understand what was this meeting, what did the economists who attended to it think and the meaning of this skirmish with respect to structuralism and monetarist elaborations. Therefore, we intend to write critical reviews of the texts that compose the conference and analyze them based on secondary literature written about the theoretical -and even political - debate.
