Abstract

This postdoctoral project aims to integrate the research thematic project called The conflict management in the production of a contemporary city: São Paulo's experience through a research about Public Defenders in the state of Sao Paulo. More specifically, this proposal aims to analyze this institution in its interface with the judicial activism and conflicts present today in the construction of urban spaces. By combining different methodologies, we seek to understand the meaning of this specific activism in a field of urban conflicts and contributes to the contemporary debate about the new forms of urban management and control, through the study of an institution that has been subject of little attention by researchers in the social science field, such as the Public Defenders.
