Abstract

There is a growing popularity about owning birds as pets and because of that, the veterinary doctors are more and more expected to provide diagnosis and therapy for the diseases that strike these animals. That said, complementary exams are of extreme importance for concluding a diagnosis, for example the radiographic exam and the digital tomography. The radiographic exam is already broadly used to accomplish the evaluation of the respiratory sistem in birds, however the digital tomoghrapy is increasingly being used for its advantages over the convencional radiography. Many times, depending on the clinical condition of the bird, the anesthesia or the manual contention can present big risks for the animal´s life. In these cases a radiolucent contention box can be used during the exam. The objective of this work is to compare the quality of the respiratory sistem evaluation with the convencional radiographic exam and with the digital tomography, using the contention box, so then determine the most suitable method. Twenty exams of psittacines bird that were submitted to both methods will be analysed.
