Abstract The studies and information about the reasons that led the legislature to adopt the Electoral Code of 1932 are still incipient. The main aspects of the reform of 1932 - women's suffrage, secret ballot, compulsory voting, electoral justice, classist vote - will be the subject of attention. The proposal is to organize some databases containing information relating to the discussions that resulted in the final drafting of the Code. It is intended from unexplored sources - the newspapers - to recover the debate on the reform of the electoral system and, more generally, on the reflection of alternative institutions representing those of the First Republic.
