Abstract

Reading is an important skill and your domain is related to economic and personal success. However, countries like Brazil still have high rates of illiteracy in young people and adults. Thus, it is important to improve the ability to read and write in two ways: reducing the number of students who drop out of school and improving the quality of education. The project "Youth and Adult Education" (EJA) makes it possible for people over 15 years can attend school and complete their education. However, it remains unclear what the predictive skills of reading acquisition in adults, and if they are similar to children. The main predictors skills in children are: rapid automatized naming (RAN) and phonological awareness. Objective: To measure and compare the pattern of eye movements of young people and adults who are learning to read, with adult literacy in reading tests and rapid automatized naming. 60 young people and adults of bot h genders, half enrolled in adult education courses and other college students. All participants will be assessed through a battery of neuropsychological tests and reading and writing tasks. Furthermore, will be evaluated eye movements in reading assignments, rapid automatized naming and lexical decision making. The RED500 Flex System (SMI Technologies Inc.) will be used for recording and analysis of the patterns of eye movements. The results of the two groups will be compared in all measures. Furthermore, analyzes of correlation and regression will be conducted.
