Quality of life in patients with gastrointestinal chronic diseases

Abstract

The term "quality of life" (QoL) it's getting more and more importance nowadays, it's being used to understand the impact of the disease and the treatment and how they affect the life of patients. The literature shows that QoL is being incorporated in health researches, especially in chronic diseases, to improve the medical management and the treatment offered, however there are few scientific studies in this area. The treatment of chronic diseases is important to improve the QoL in general and better functional capacity. The chronic diseases that affect the gastrointestinal tract are Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Functional Disorders in Gastroenterology and Colonic Neoplasm.Objectives: We intend to evaluate and describe the QoL, depressive and anxiety symptoms, sexual dysfunction, self-esteem and socio-demographic aspects in patients with intestinal chronic diseases: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Functional Disorders in Gastroenterology and Colonic Neoplasm. Methods: In this research, we will evaluate patients with the diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (Crohn Disease and Ulcerative Colitis), Functional Disorders in Gastroenterology (Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Functional Constipation) and Colonic Neoplasm from the Clinic of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Clinic of Functional Disorders from the Hospital of the Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu - UNESP. The patients with the diagnosis of Colonic Neoplasm, confirmed by histopathological exam, will be evaluate in the Hospital before the surgery to remove the tumor in the Clinical Hospital of Botucatu and in the State Hospital of Bauru. The patients will fill a protocol with those questionnaires: socio-demographic and clinical aspects, quality of life SF-36, Anxiety and Depression Hospital Scale, Self-esteem, Female Sexual Function and the International Index of Erectile Function.
