Abstract

The Eco-Industrial Parks (EIP) proposes an organizational integrated model of businesses that encompasses the idea of cooperation between the companies of the park and the sharing of services for costs reduction, supporting the development of Industrial Symbiosis (IS) process. There are indicators for measuring industrial symbiosis, among which stands out the ISI (Industrial Symbiosis Indicator) of Felicio (2013) that considers the dynamism of EIPs, however there is no consensus on which one to use. Furthermore, there is no method that enables the evaluation of the options. The central objective of this project is to propose a procedure to evaluate the industrial symbiosis indicators, including the ISI. Thus, the research presents two contributions, the first is the proposal of the evaluation method of industrial symbiosis indicators, and the second refers to the progress of ISI. To reach the objective, the project will apply existing methods of indicators validation to evaluate the ISI: indicators validation through expert judgment; indicators comparison; simulation through the Agent Based Modeling (ABM) technique. With the experience obtained will be proposed the evaluation method and, finally, improvements in the ISI. Part of this research has already been done, because it was started in early 2014 in the form of a master research. This research project consists of the transfer request for the modality of direct doctorate, as suggested by the qualification examiners. The project is planned to be close in late 2017. (AU)
