Abstract

The work entitled Comparative study on -are suffixes / tion and -mento in deverbal nouns formation in European Portuguese has as main objective to make a study of the lexical productivity in deverbal nouns formation in a corpus made up of a European Portuguese sample extracted from the CRPC - Portuguese Contemporâneo1 Reference Corpus. Through this study, we intend to verify which of these two suffixes is more productive in the formation of deverbal names present in the selected corpus. This work is relevant to the understanding of how the formation of new words is carried out in European Portuguese, based on the choice between the two affixes selected to the research. In addition, we will seek to understand if there are differences between Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese regarding the choice of one or another suffix in the formation of deverbal names.
