Abstract

The work entitled "Morphophonological processes triggered by -s/ção and -mento suffixes in forming deverbal nouns of the Portuguese from Araraquara/SP and Araxá/MG" aims to do the collection, the description, the classification and the analysis of the morphophonological processes triggered by derivational suffixes -s /ção and -mento in the formation of deverbal nouns in a corpus of a sample of Brazilian Portuguese extracted from newspapers of Araraquara/SP and Araxá/MG in the first half of the twentieth century. In Portuguese there are two basic processes of word formation, the derivation and composition. The derivation is given when a word is formed by only one radical to which are attached affixes (prefixes and suffixes). In this work, what interests us is the suffixal derivation, given our work be guided in forming words from adding suffixes. When do suffixing also occur some changes in phonological verbal base to better suit the phonological characteristics of the language, so the need for interface between morphology and phonology for a complete description of these configurations. The morphophonology is the study of phonological variations suffering morphological elements - radicals, affixes, and thematic vowel endings. Through this study, we intend then to survey, classification and analysis of the main morphophonological processes triggered by -s/ção and -mento suffixes when substantiation, checking which suffix is more productive in the formation of words present in the newspapers of each the cities chosen. This work is relevant to help understand how the authors of newspaper articles make the formation of new words, based on the choice between the two affixes selected for this research. We also seek to understand how the choices made in the past can affect the current language situation. Still, we seek to contribute to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage through digitization of newspaper copies that circulated in the cities chosen. (AU)
