Abstract

This research purports to elaborate a comprehensive perspective regarding South America's energy geopolitics - as well as, to a lesser extent, the global energy geopolitics - focusing on the role played by renewable energy, addressing its current context and its prospective participation in the regional geopolitics. In order to achieve such outlook, the study regimen comprises, specifically, the role and actions of UNASUL's Energy Council in what concerns South America's energy security, analyzing the strategies that include renewable energy. In general, the research will be carried out by studying South America's energy geopolitics and by analyzing official documents from UNASUL's countries' Energy Ministries, as well as documents from its Energy Council and relevant data published by OLADE, IEA, UNEP, ECLAC and UNFCCC.
