Abstract

This research aims to study the relationships established between the land tenure characteristics, traditional families and the land use system that these families adopt in the municipality of Ponta de Pedras, located on the island of Marajó, PA. This municipality has two important aspects: it conserves characteristic of traditional Brazilian agrarian structure, such as concentrating large estate in the hands of traditional families who owner the largest properties in the municipality, and small farms linked to families that are not considered traditional and are related to the production of açaí fruit. Using geoprocessing tools like ArcGIS, this research will present a methodology for the area of study.
