Abstract

The ageing of the population is the result of increased life expectancy observed in developed and developing countries, such as Brazil, this process is capable of generating physical and psychosocial changes in the profile of this group of individuals. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of oral lesions in elderly patients from a reference oral medicine center and evaluate the changes that have occurred in the clinical profile of these patients with the country's development over the past years. Thus, a retrospective study will be conducted based on the medical records of patients over 60 years old treated at the Oral Medicine Service of Araraquara Dental School, from January 1994 to December 2014. The data will be organized in tables and analyzed using descriptive statistics (absolute and percentage distributions). In addition, chi-square test with a significance level of 5% will be used to assess the changes that have occurred in the prevalence of oral lesions in elderly patients over the past years.
