Abstract

Bruxism is considered a repetitive activity of the mandible muscles that can occur during wakefulness ou during sleep (sleep bruxism). Among the various etiological factors of sleep bruxism, the psychological factor has been identified as predominant. It is noteworthy also that the psychological aspects of the children are highly correlated with psychological aspects - such as stress and depression - of mothers or primary caregivers. In this context, the objective of this research is to evaluate the manifestations of anxiety and behavioral characteristics of children with sleep bruxism and its relations with the manifestations of stress and depression in primary caregivers of them. Participate in the survey at least 25 children, from 7 to 12 years, diagnosed with bruxism and in Ribeirão Preto Dental School - USP, and their primary caregivers. The instruments that will be used are: Trait Anxiety Inventory-State - IDADE - C, with children; Child Behavior Checklist, Lipp Stress Symptom Inventory for Adults, Beck Depression Inventory and Complementary map, with the caregivers. The tools will be applied individually in sessions face to face. Descriptive statistical analysis will be performed and it will be adopted as the significance level of p d 0.05. The study aims to contribute to the understanding of the psychological factors related to bruxism manifestation in children and the relationship with the psychological aspects of caregivers in order to think about appropriate interventions for them.
