Abstract

The present study had as objectives (a) to evaluate the adaptive behavior and the quality of life of young people with Down syndrome (b) to verify if there is a relation between the quality of life and the intensity of support in adaptive behaviors of young people with Down syndrome. Participants in the survey were 10 young people with Down syndrome, aged between 16 and 28 years, of both sexes, and their respective parents / relatives. Data collection took place in the participants' homes and, as instruments, the Support Intensity Scale (SIS Scale) and a quality of life assessment questionnaire for people with disabilities (QV-DI) were used, both of which were answered by the young people with the syndrome Of Down, in the presence of their parents / relatives. When the youngsters did not know and / or did not want to respond, the parents / family gave the answer followed by an example. For the analysis of the data, the mixed method was used. The analysis of the Intensity of Support Scale (SIS) was carried out by means of its manual, taking into account the type, frequency and daily time of support, as well as the quality of life questionnaire was analyzed through its manual, considering the Environmental, psychological, physical and social domains. The results pointed out that, although young people with intellectual disabilities need support in some adaptive activities, they have the autonomy to carry out most of the activities. In addition, the data also point out that, although in some domains the young people present some dissatisfaction, in general, they are satisfied with their quality of life. (AU)
