Abstract

The research goal is to analyze the relation between Emperor Augustus image and divinization. In contemporary historiography (Alfoldy, 1973; Clark, 2007; Eck, 1998; Eder, 2005; Fravo, 1996; Galinsky, 1996; Gradel, 2002; Hekster, 2007; Lendon, 1997; Martins, 2003; Price, 1986; kamm, 2006; Litott, 1994; Lowrie, 2009; Machado, 1998; Millar, 2003; Sweet, 1919; Sumner, 2005; Taylor, 1975; Zanker, 1992) the Augustus' divinization while he was alive in the city of Rome is broadly debated and does not present any agreement about it. Nevertheless, the idealized hellenistic/greek model of representation used for the Hellenistic Kings to divinize themselves become used by Augustus and the Aeneid of Virgil poem which brings connotations of the own Emperor divinization, was a personal order. Moreover, the imperial cult shows peculiarities in the city of Rome differently from other cities of the empire, emphasizing the analysis problem. Therefore, to make the analysis between divinization and the first emperor image beyond Aeneid of Virgil and the imperial cult, the relative statuary of the period (27 BC- 14 AD) will be used to help us with this thesis understanding.
