Abstract

In this work, we intend to analyze the extent to which the omniscient narrator of the work La fin de la nuit interferes in the judgment of the attitudes and thoughts of the character through the narrative introspection, given that it is a novel that articulates the depth of the characters to the classical form of the novel. Through researching of the narrative elements, by the light of narrative discourse theory, it is intended, with this work, at first, to analyze the relationship between the voice of main character - Thérèse - and that of the narrator, to then point out how the latter acts on the former. One of the drivers for this research lies in the fact Mauriac explores the universe of characters "mal-aimés" and amoral, exposing from a realistic perspective, the interior of these "monster beings" in a way that, if on one hand this defense of "evil" causes an aversive reaction, of otherness, the "complicity" established between narrator and character ensures comprehension by the reader of such complex characters because ambiguous, so motivate a sense of empathy. Moral in La fin de la nuit, whereas it sets as a challenge object to the author, merges as an act of creation the narrator. The connection between the real and reality is what determines the depth that Mauriac exposes the human soul through its narrators, intentionally maladjusted characters.
