Abstract

Vocal Science is a field of interest in Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). The SLP are supposed to perform prevent, evaluate and treatment of voice disorders. The subjects whose use voice as a work tool is called voice professionals, such as stage actors. A possible way of prevent future voice disorders in actors and actresses is to aim on the preparatory period of those future professionals, as in performing arts' schools. Objective: To identify and evaluate the talkativeness and voice loudness as well the possible vocal symptoms which the undergraduate students of performing arts may present over the four years of preparatory school. Methods: Transversal and quantitative study, approved by the Ethics Committee (number 1.208.168). A hundred students (considering students from the first to the fourth year of undergraduate period) will be invited to answer two questionnaires that will be applied after signature of Informed Consent. The scores will count and after the conduction of statistical analysis the data will be correlated. Expected Results: The results will show the profile of performing arts students regarding talkativeness, vocal loudness and vocal symptoms and provided these data it will be possible to reflect and to propose preventive actions in this future group of voice professionals.
