Analysis linear and symbolic of heart rate variability in type 2 diabetics

Abstract

About 8.3% of the population has diabetes mellitus, which it can present changes in autonomic modulation of the heart already in the early stages of the disease. Thus, non-invasive, reproducible and low cost test have been used for evaluation of autonomic function, including the heart rate variability (HRV) (MONTANO et al., 1994; Stevens et al., 1998), which can be analyzed in the linear and non-linear way. Therefore the symbolic analysis of HRV consists of a non-linear method and has been more efficient to evaluate autonomic function compared to linear methods, because it provides a qualitative classification of patterns of RR intervals (RR intervals) (ABAD et al., 2014 ) and allow non-reciprocal analysis of the parasympathetic and sympathetic indexes (MALLIANI et al, 1991;. KOLLAI; KOIZUMI, 1979; PORTA et al, 2007) and is also valid to detect changes in autonomic modulation in the short term (AKSELROD et al. 1981; PAGANI et al., 1986; Porta et al, 2007). Thus the aim of this study is to investigate the cardiac autonomic modulation in type 2 diabetics using indexes obtained in symbolic analysis and analyze whether they have association with non-linear indexes. The sample will consist of 20 individuals between 40-60 years of both genders and it will include pre-diabetics and diabetics with optimal medication. The project will be submitted to the Ethics Committee, which each participant will sign a free and informed consent, and will be informed about the procedures to be performed, as well as ensuring the confidentiality of information. Firstly an interview will be applied and after the protocol will be made in two days. The first day of protocol will have measures as vital signs, anthropometric and familiarization with the experimental protocol and the second day it will record HR and RR intervals at rest. The symbolic analysis of HRV and analysis in the time domain and frequency will be held.
