Abstract

The aim of the present work is: to characterize the Environmental Education (EE) research, regarding the production context on the topic of "environmental justice" and to identify the meanings attributed to the theme in these researches. Other intention is to explore the significances attributed to the relationships built between EE and "environmental justice", as well as the potential and limits of EE in promoting "environmental justice". It is expected that this analysis allows to explore the process of sense construction about the possible relations between EE and "environmental justice". This study is part of the work effort of the project "Estado da Arte da Pesquisa em Educação Ambiental no Brasil" - EArte, which aims, among others, to constitute a collection of Brazilian dissertations and theses on environmental education and to perform descriptive and analytical studies on this production. Therefore, the production to be analyzed in this study consists of theses and dissertations from 1981 to 2014 registered in the database of theses and dissertations of EArte project. This is a research with qualitative approach, such as "State of the art (estado da arte)". Considering the research objectives of the present study, the theoretical and methodological referential used will be the historical-cultural approach, which comprehends the research act as a dialogical relation between the subjects, enabled by language. In this perspective the interaction is recognized as the essence of the human phenomena study, having as a background the assumptions and reflections of Lev Vygotsky and Mikhail Bakhtin regarding the meaning and language in this process.
