Abstract

This project aims to analyze the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Peru (CVR in Portuguese) to discuss the indigenous issues in the Commission, focusing on the Andean Quechua world. In 1980, the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (Sendero Luminoso, PCP-SL) initiated a people's war against the Peruvian state in the Andean zone of Ayacucho, unleashing an armed conflict that had mainly affected rural areas of the poorest departments of the south-central Peruvian Andes - region also pejoratively called "Indian spot" - and that left the indigenous-peasants as symbols par excellence of the victims. Such evidence sets out a issue more fundamental: that there is in the country a dispute over the identity categories of "indigenous", "peasant", "mestizo" and/or "cholo" which tends to invisibility of the Andean indigenous peoples, when reduced historically the socioeconomic category of "peasant" or diluted in the category of "mestizo" and/or "cholo". Based on this framework, our hypothesis is that the indigenous issues has been if not silenced, at least obscured in the Final Report of the CVR, in order to maintain a symbolic violence towards Indians. Thematize such violence and analyzing their representation in the CVR are the focus of this work. (AU)
