Abstract

The main objective of this project will be to study the relation between instructions given to patients that were submitted to a third molar surgery and self-care behaviors emitted by the same patients in post-surgery moment. Data will be collected in the surgical dental clinic of "Piracicaba´s Dental School". Participants will be twenty patients of both genders, with ages between 18 to 14 years old and the surgeon that will carry out the third molar extraction surgery. Participants will be separated in two groups. In the first group case, the researcher will observe the surgery procedure and the instructions about self-care behaviors patients should follow during the recovery period. For the second group the researcher, before the surgery, in an dental clinical setting , will show a video with an actor doing the self-care behaviors that patient must do in the recovering period. At suture removing moment, a week after the surgery, participants of both groups will be submitted to an interview applied by the researcher that will investigate which and how were the self-care behaviors that they had done in recovering period. Results will be analyzed trying to identify the relation between instructions and self-care patient´s behaviors after the dental surgery. (AU)
