Abstract

From the 1980s some studies about libraries as spaces for cultural activities and cultural action emerge in specialized brazilian literature. Terms such as cultural agent librarian, library-cultural center, show the socio-cultural function of libraries as also the exercise of the librarian as a cultural agent in ITS surroundings. It was found through a literature research that researchs or studies studies covering cultural practices, arts, artistic information and its mediation in libraries have been low emphatized in the Brazilian context in the areas of Library and Information Science. Hence, it is observed that the cultural mediation can be thought as a single field of study, specific, that lacks of better understanding. Thus, it is intended to achieve the following overall goal: to build a concept of cultural mediation in libraries based on Information Science. The research has a qualitative, theoretical and descriptive approach of exploratory nature, using the Delphi methodology for the referenced data of cultural mediation in libraries, in order to build the proposed of this theory among researchers of cultural mediation area.
