Abstract

The metabolic cost to incorporate any aminoacid in a protein chain is less than that estimated for excrete it, by exceeding the required amount of aminoacid, energy that could be used for deposition in tissues is diverted to nitrogen excretion. Based on this principle, new alternatives are sought to elucidate questions about metabolism and physiology to animal production. The technique of stable isotopes will be used in this study to determine the deposition efficiency of L- (15N) methionine in different tissues in three ages of broiler. It will be used 183 Cobb 500® male broiler chickens of three tests in: 4 to 16, 18 to 30 and 32 to 44 days of age. The nutritional program will consist of three stages and the feed is supplemented with L- (15N) methionine (150,21mg, 15N 98 atm%, Cambridge Isotope Laboratories®), it will be administered according to the body weight of the broiler at the beginning of each test. The collected samples are: feathers, intestines, liver, pectoral muscle, excreta and blood plasma. Subsequently, the samples will be analyzed by an elemental analyzer (CHNS-O) coupled to aisotope-ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) to quantify the isotopic enrichment of tissues. The efficiency of utilization to L- (15N) methionine will be calculated based on the mass balance between consumption, excretion and tissue incorporation of nitrogen. Additionally, this study will foster more specific understanding of the nitrogen present in methionine incorporation in broiler metabolism and physiological these results will contribute to traditional methods of quantifying the nutritional requirements of broilers.
