Abstract

Waveform data collected in previous projects and the new data to be collectedin the FAPESP thematic project (starting in October, 2015) will be used to improvethe 3D model of the crust and upper mantle in South America. Firstly, the initialmodel will be refined using Partitioned Waveform Inversion (PWI) applied mainly todata collected by the brazilian seismographic network. Subsequently, the improvedmodel will be used to perform a full-waveform tomography based on the veryaccurate spectral-element and adjoint methods for the whole South American continent. (AU)
