Abstract

Heart failure (HF) is a major problem of global public health, and the lack of a deeper pathogenic understanding of the causing diseases is the greatest difficulty for treatment's choice, especially of Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). Objectives: Verify if immunosuppressive therapy administered to transplant patients to prevent organ rejection is associated with the increase of infectious agents compared to those present in the explanted heart, verify possible role of these agents in inflammation related to rejection and diagnose possible co-infections in explanted hearts with CMD. Methods: Immunohistochemistry reactions will be performed to study primary antibodies against inflammatory cells: T (CD3, CD4, CD8 and CD45), B (CD20) and macrophages (CD68); expression of HLA-DR/DP/DQ and infectious agents: Chlamydia pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Borrelia burgerdorferi and cardiotropic virus (Enterovirus, Parvovirus, Hepatitis C virus, Hepatitis B virus, Epstein-Barr virus, adenovirus, human herpesvirus 1 2 and 6) in endomyocardial biopsies.
