Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the long-term bond strength, failure mode and interface micromorphology of a three-step conventional adhesive system to dentin submitted to pretreatment with 2.5% Arrabidaea chica extract or when incorporated into the phosphoric acid or into the primer of the adhesive system after 24 hours and 6 months. Forty dentin surfaces will be obtained from sound third molars after removal of occlusal enamel and divided into four groups (n = 10 ) according to the following treatments: 1. CON - Absence of extract application and application of the three-step conventional adhesive system Adper Scotchbond Multipurpose/ 3M ESPE (control group); 2. ACAF - 2.5% Arrabidaea chica extract incorporated into the 35% phosphoric acid; 3. AC - Aqueous solution of 2.5% Arrabidaea chica extract after etching with 35% phosphoric acid; 4. ACP - 2.5% Arrabidaea chica extract incorporated into the primer of the three-step conventional adhesive system Adper Scotchbond Multipurpose/ 3M ESPE). Resin composite blocks will be prepared on dentin surfaces after treatment. Slices from the interface of each group will be obtained to evaluate the micromorphology of the adhesive interface. Beams from the interface will be obtained with an adhesive area of approximately 1mm2 to be submitted to microtensile bond strength tests in an universal test machine after 24 hours and 6 months of storage. Mode of failure will be evaluated after fractures with a magnifying loupe. For data analysis, it will be calculated, for each tooth, the arithmetic average of microtensile bond strength values of the beams. It will be applied descriptive statistics data, Analysis of Variance and the Tukey test for comparisons among treatments and time, in a sub-divided parcel design, if there is homogeneity of variance, with a significance level of 5 %. For the data pattern of fracture, will be used descriptive statistics. The micromorphology of the interface will be analyzed descriptively. (AU)
