Abstract

Pionus maximiliani is a parrot species widely distributed which occurs from northeastern Brazil to north Argentina. Is a polytypic species with four subspecies currently accepted: Pionus maximiliani maximiliani, P. maximiliani siy, P. maximiliani melanoblepharus e P. maximiliani lacerus. Species range is still poor known although some studies has been conducted but it was restricted to morphological characters or when using molecular characters, the sampling was limited and not aimed to conduct a rigorous review of the complex. The objetive of this work is to review the taxonomy of Pionus maximiliani and analyze the phylogeography to test congruence between lineages and biomes. Futhermore, to compare the phylogeography to morphological and vocal analysis. Thus, it will be analyzed skins in plumage coloration and morphometrics while the vocal characters will be analyzed in quantitative and qualitative perspectives. Phylogeography will be done using maximum likelihood and Bayesian analysis in addiction AMOVA and Mantel's test also will be used. Times divergences between clades will be estimated using the molecular clock. (AU)
