Abstract

The aim of this research project, as an extension of our previous work, is to study the effects of a current-current-like interaction in low dimensional electronic systems as in small discrete rings and two-dimensional lattices. We will assume the existence of an interaction that, contrary to that described by the Breit-Darwin Hamiltonian, is able to attract antiparallel currents and also has an order of magnitude comparable with the Coulomb repulsion. Then, we will investigate if the interaction we propose leads to the amplification of the diamagnetic response in discrete rings with a few sites. Besides, we will inspect if it's possible that our interaction originates a ground state with current vortices in two-dimensional lattices. It's also part of our goal to investigate a possible origin of this current-current-like interaction. (AU)
