Abstract

If we intend to understand the specificity of the existential psychoanalysis outlined in the last part of The Being and Nothingness, its modus operandi as revelation of the original project for-itself, we must analyze the theory of desire and the lack; in this case, the chapter entitled "The for-itself and the being of value" is essential for this purpose. From this point of view, we see that intentionality (all consciousness is consciousness of...) is presented as desire. Thus, the philosopher understands that intentionality, if he wants to respect the consciousness's being and the phenomenon's being, it is necessary to mark in the consciousness a fault of being because it can only aim the transcendent being if this one appears as the consciouness's default of being. Therefore, identifying the desire as a support of the intentionality (the correlation), Sartre seems to provide a key that can guide us to understand the sense of the for-it self’s lack of being, as well as he operates a decisive step for the comprehension of the relationship between for-itself and in-itself; and this is not exactly what intends Sartre's psychoanalysis?
