Abstract

Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), develops slowly as a result of continuous or intermittent exposure to excessive noise, causing progressive and irreversible hearing loss. Although there is a great potential for prevention, NIHL is still a prevalent occupational problem. One way to minimize the noise are hearing protection devices (HPD), because they are economically viable and short-term effect. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an educational activity on the hearing protection of workers exposed to occupational noise, comparing the attenuation values of two ear plugs through Earfit Validation System equipment and assess the perception of users regarding comfort of those devices. Methods: Participants of this study were 30 employees of a public university in São Paulo, exposed to noise, of both genders, aged above 18 years old. We will measure the hearing attenuation levels of two HPD, Pomp-plus and 1100. In the first collection prompted the participant to place the protector according to the package directions. The second collection will be after the participant have been receiving the demonstration on the correct placement of the hearing protector. Then, they will respond a questionnaire assessing the comfort of HPD. The data will be tabulated and a descriptive analysis will be done.
