Abstract

The aim of this research project is to reflect on a specific aspect of my doctoral research in progress, which focuses on the effects of the presence of the dead among the living in a village of the Xukuru do Ororubá indigenous people: the relationship between death and time. Through an exchange period at Aarhus University under the supervision of Rane Willerslev, who is coordinating a project that relates the dead and time in an innovative, fundamental, and still relatively unexplored manner, my intention is to develop and refine the ethnographic data that indicate this relationship in the thought and social practices of the Xukuru. In this way, I wish to use the dialogue with this new proposal to enhance my more general reflections on the presence of the dead in everyday life in Vila de Cimbres, focusing especially on death and time, as well as to reflect on the possible effects and consequences of this relationship between the dead and time in Xukuru cosmology as a whole.
