Abstract Throughout the past 24 years, compositional collective Wandelweiser has had an extensive and expressive musical production, counting dozens of records and hundreds of scores published through their Edition Wandelweiser label. This project aims to investigate the collective/s production focusing on two main aspects that are recurrent in most of their compositions: silence and extended durations. To achieve this, the research shall trace connections between the collective/s aesthetic and some of the most significant composers that delt with silence and extended durations in the second half of the twentieth century, such as John Cage, Morton Feldman and La Monte Young. Also included in the project are interviews with Brazilian composer Chico Mello, who was part of the Wandelweiser collective from its first years until 2005. (AU) | |
