Abstract

In the last few decades interaction became a key concept within the Arts. The development of technological devices and interfaces, as well as the study of interactive processes are essential aspects of contemporary art. The central theme of this project is the development and use of interactive processes in the context of technology-mediated musical production. The research team will address theoretical and conceptual aspects related to interactive processes and will develop interactive systems for composition, performance, and auralization. The project will seek to promote the production of both theoretical and artistic works within its environment. This will be accomplished by exploring actions involving multiple areas, such as Fine Arts, Computer Science, Engineering, and also promoting a dialogue between Music and other mediatic Arts. The studies will be distributed across four major research lines, which will work in an integrated manner: 1) Sonology; 2) Development of interactive systems; 3) Artistic production with interactive systems; 4) Musical acoustics, psychoacoustics and auralization The goal of the project is to build a corpus of musical research and production based on interactive processes. These processes involve research problems such as mobility, spatialization, creation of systems and interfaces, mapping of gestures, analysis of repertoire, and interactive artistic production. This will require strong connection not only with knowledge on digital and electronic technologies, but also artistic and aesthetics aspects. The group is, thus, comprised of researchers working on multiple interdisciplinary fields. The main focus is in musical production but the project will gather four major fields that will collaborate seeking synergistic results: Music, Visual Arts, Computer Science, and Engineering. (AU)
