Abstract

The number of Caesareans performed in Brazil places it, according to the World Health Organization data, as one of the leader countries on the ranking of those that do Caesarians the most. The fact that the held number are way beyond the recommended by WHO causes concerns about the health levels and a consequent production of discourses in the discussion about the realization of normal or Caesarian childbirth. This project focuses on this issue exploring the social production of the phenomena classified as "natural" by both healthcare professionals and parents in favor of normal or Caesarian childbirth realization; and this is pretended to be done by the analysis of the column "Ser mãe é padecer na internet" and the magazine "ÉPOCA", witch allow a discussion about the social production of the female body and its different representations with regards to the delivery methods.
