Abstract

Stem cells are characterized by their capacity for self-renewal and ability to differentiate into different cell types. Currently, among the various sources of obtaining stem cells, there is great interest in the amniotic membrane, since this can be easily obtained during childbirth presents a high rate of growth and proliferation, multipotentiality as the differentiation capacity, in addition to being considered a immune-privileged membrane, the result of its location on the maternal-fetal interface, which causes your cells to exhibit low immune response. In the search for new sources of stem cells applicable to regenerative medicine and new animal models that may at different levels present homology with humans, this project aimed to culture, characterize and analyze the tumorigenic potential of the progenitor cells derived from amniotic membrane.
