Abstract

Introduction: Free running is superior to cycling for inducing bronchospasm through exercise. However, free running is not feasible to be performed at the outpatient context, and running on treadmill demand costs. In this context, the step test, which induces a high cardiorespiratory demand, is a simple test, with the advantage of being portable and carried out in any environment. Objective: To compare the incremental step test (IST) with the treadmill test for evaluation of exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB) in patients with asthma, and to contrast the cardiorespiratory demands between both tests.Relevance of the study: It is expected to show the effectiveness of a field test for evaluation of the EIB, and thus propose a protocol of easy applicability and low cost for evaluation of this condition.
