Abstract Low back pain treatment generates enormous socio-economic costs. Thus, it is a research priority to identify cost-effective treatments. Currently, Pilates method has been recommended for the treatment of patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) but there are still no studies on its cost-effectiveness. Therefore, the objectives of this project will be: 1) to conduct an economic evaluation of the Pilates method in the treatment of CLBP; 2) to review and analyze articles on economic evaluation of CLBP treatments. To achieve the first objective, 296 patients with CLBP were randomly divided in four intervention groups that received an educational booklet: Booklet Group did not receive additional exercises; Pilates Group 1 received a Pilates method program once a week; Pilates Group 2 received the same Pilates method, but twice a week; and Pilates Group 3 received the same method, but three times a week. Pain, disability and quality-adjusted life-years are being assessed before randomization, six weeks, six months and 12 months after randomization for cost-effectiveness and cost-utility analysis. After the end of data collection, scheduled for October/2016, data will be analyzed during the international fellowship. To achieve the second objective, the search will be performed in the following databases: MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PEDro, EconLit, NHS EED and EURONHEED. Randomized controlled trials, with economic evaluation in the treatment of CLBP, will be selected. Data related to the type, perspective and results of the economic evaluation between treatments will be extracted for analysis. (AU) | |
