The influence of June 2013 manifestations on the fights and strikes of unionized workers of São Paulo

Abstract

This research project proposes to analyze the possible relations between the manifestations that occurred in June 2013 and the unionized workers' mobilizations in São Paulo in the subsequent period. For this, it will be done a bibliographic review about these manifestations and about the Brazilian unionism and also a qualitative field research in three major unions of São Paulo, related to different trade unions, about their mobilizations: the Sindicato dos Bancários e Financiários de São Paulo (bank and finance workers' union of São Paulo), the Sindicato dos Metalúrgicos de São Paulo (metalworkers' union of São Paulo) and the Sindicato dos Metroviários de São Paulo (subway workers' union of São Paulo). It is, therefore, a study in the field of sociology of unionism that aims, through a historical event, to investigate the relation between the political and ideological conjuncture and the union mobilization. Thus, it aims to discuss the pertinence of theses that claims that unionism, to some extent, recovers from the crisis experienced in the 1990s. Furthermore, although it is not a study of June manifestations, it aims to also contribute to the debate on these events by investigating one of the possible social effects of this phenomenon and by making a systematization of data, research and theses on the subject published so far.
