Abstract

According to the latest histopathological classification of Salivary Gland Tumors based on the World Health Organization (WHO) 2005, there are 38 histopathological subtypes considering the benign and malignt tumors. In addition to this large number, there are the secondary, hybrid tumors, dedifferentiated and those with stages of malignant transformation, which creates even more difficulties in diagnostic interpretation. Unfortunately, the morphological variability of these tumors is mirrored by immunohistochemical and histochemical profiles, being merely ancillary, but not conclusive in routine practice. This heterogeneity reflects in different biological behavior. The WHO 2005 classification represented the consensus of current knowledge at the time, however, some modifications should be made in the next issue based on new entities recognized proven either by morphology and molecular identity defined by increasing sophistication and viability of techniques molecular. So reclassify tumors has become a regular exercise for the modern pathologist and this may or may not have significant clinical implications for the patient. Given these points, we based our study on retrospective review of salivary gland tumors in order to identify new still hidden entities in our Department and register our data in World Literature in order to contribute to population data. Furthermore, an analysis of the follow-up of these patients will be made for prognostic interpretation of the various histhopatological types.
