Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the shear bond strength between a Y-TZP ceramic and two resin cements, one conventional and one self-etching, after water aging. Y-TZP discs (VIPI) will be obtained (N=360), polished and sintered with 5.0 mm diameter and 2.0 mm height. The surface of the ceramic will be treated with: 1- AS (no treatment-Control), 2- Air abrasion with aluminum oxide particles (50 um), 3- Single Bond Universal adhesive (3M ESPE), 4- Experimental adhesive, 5- Air abrasion with aluminum oxide particles (50 um) + Single Bond Universal adhesive and 6- Air abrasion with aluminum oxide particles + experimental adhesive. After each treatment, the surface of the discs (n=3) will be analyzed by SEM (100 and 500x). Composite resin discs (Filtek Z350 XT A3E- 3M ESPE) with 5.0 mm diameter and 2.0 mm height will be adhered on each zirconia disc with conventional resin cement (RelyX Ultimate- 3M ESPE) or self-etching resin cement (RelyX U200- 3M ESPE). The specimens will be submitted to shear bond strength tests by application of tensile load (EMIC DL2000, 1.0 kN, 1.0 mm/min) after 24 h or 9 months of water storage in distilled water at 37 ºC. The adhesive interface of each specimen will be analyzed in stereomicroscope (30x) and the failures classified as adhesive, cohesive of the composite resin and/or resin cement, or mixed. Shear bond strength data (MPa) will be examined for normality, homoscedasticity and statistically analyzed. (AU)
