Abstract

In this project, individuals from the SP80 -3280 variety of sugarcane with the insertion of the gene that codifies for the key enzyme of the metabolism of rafinose series oligosaccharides (ROS), galactinol synthase (CaGolS2), derived from Coffea arabica, will have their primary metabolism analyzed. For this purpose, both leafs and culms of transformed and wild type sugarcane, grown under greenhouse conditions, will have their content of total soluble sugars, rafinose series oligosaccharides and metabolic profile evaluated. The possible variations caused by the insertion of the gene will be correlated to previous physiological and biomass parameters obtained for these plants. (AU)
