Abstract

Studies in developmental psychology and learning area have pointed to the importance of the relationship between maternal behaviors, parental and children, when considering children's healthy development and family mental health. To this end, it stands out as a protective factor social skills. Skilled parents are more likely to use positive practices in the relationship with the children and teach them to cope with the demands of their own development in a healthy way, decreasing the likelihood of child behavior problem. The literature has identified variables that can interfere with this process, such as sex/gender and age of the child, the diagnosis of behavioral problems and the educational practices of fathers and mothers. Although there are many studies on the subject, there are still gaps and inclusive results. The objective of this study is to compare paternal, maternal and child behavior, through the use of behavioral assessment tools and direct observation, taking into account age differences, sex and behavioral problems. The research will involve 100 fathers and 100 mothers of children in pre-school and school age, with and without a diagnosis of behavior problems and of both sexes. For the behavioral assessment, the TRF, CBCL instruments, RE-HSE-P, QRSH and observation method will be used. We expected to find answers about the differences and similarities in the behavior of parents in relation to children, considering the different subgroups of children that will be analyzed in terms of parenting practices.
