Abstract

Aim: Development of low intensity dental light-curing units and photoinitiatior systems activated under their wavelengths (from 495 to 750 nm) for use in resin materials. Material and Methods: Model resin-based matrix will be mechanically blended. To this matrix, different amounts of filler particles will be added (0wt%, 10wt%, 50wt% and 70wt%). Alternative photoinitiatior systems activated under low light intensity will be compared to the conventional system using camphorquinone and reducing agent activated under high light intensity. Chemical structure and molecular weight of each synthetized photoinitiatior system will be characterized by elementary analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance and spectral and molar absorbance by UV-Vis absorption spectrophotometry. Irradiation and spectral emittance of each light-curing unit developed will be characterized by spectrometry. Each developed material will be submitted to a cytotoxicity test to evaluate its biocompatibility; Infrared spectroscopy to evaluate cure efficiency and ISO 4049 to evaluate depth of cure. Finally, the temperature increase at the light guide tip and at the pulpal floor during a restorative procedure will be evaluated during the photoactivation process using each light-curing unit. Data will be statistically analyzed with significance level at 5%.
