Abstract

Objectives: Development and characterization of dental resin materials photoactivated under long wavelengths (between 495 and 750 nm) and its benefits. Material and Methods: Different resin-based dental materials will be mechanically blended in order to formulate an adhesive system, a resin luting cement, a regular restorative resin composite and a bulk fill composite. To these different experimental resin materials, alternative photoinitiators synthetized in the FAPESP #2016/05823-3 post-doctoral research project will be added. Camphorquinone will be used as control. Infrared microspectroscopy will be used to map cure efficiency of the different resin materials through simulated direct and indirect dental restorations. During the restorative procedures, thermal images inside the pulpal chamber will be recorded by an infrared camera to evaluate temperature change. Withal, light-transmittance through the restorations till the pulpal chamber will be recorded by spectrophotometry. Finally, the long wavelengths effects on the modulation of the inflammatory process of odontoblastic-like cells will be assessed. Data will be analyzed according to the different experimental designs (±=0.05 and =0.2). Power analysis will be conducted to determine sample size for each experiment to provide a power of at least 0.8.
