Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate physicochemical properties and wear resistance of commercial and experimental bulkfill composites based on elastomeric monomer. The study will be divided into two steps. Initially, wear resistance of 3 commerical bulkfill composites (Sonic Fill 2, Tetric Evoceram Bulkfill and Filtek Bulkfill) and 3 conventional composites (Herculite Ultra, Tetric Evoceram and Filtek Z350XT) will be evaluated using an oral wear simulator (400,000 ciclos a 1,9 Hz). The materials surface will be analyzed by profilometry and scanning electron microscopy. Flexural strength (FS), elastic modulus (E) and Knoop microhardness (KNH) will be also evaluated. Latter, 6 experimental bulkfill composites containing a resin matrix of ethoxylated bisphenol A diglycidyldimethacrylate (Bis-EMA) and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) associated with 2,3; 5,75 or 11,5 wmol% of urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) or an elastomeric monomer (Exothane 24) and 77wt% filler loading will be tested. The experimental composites will be characterized by its degree of conversion, depth of cure, shrinkage, shrinkage stress, FS, E, M and wear resistance as previously described. Data will be statistically analyzed at 5% significant level.
