Abstract

This project aims to create a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) platform for social and environmental governance, with the support of participatory methodologies and creating prospective scenarios, considering a multistakeholder participation. In other words, we target a multilevel approach, from managers to citizens in neighborhoods subjected to high social and environmental vulnerability. The study area is the municipality of Guarulhos (São Paulo state), settled in a macro metropolis context and developing interactions with other municipalities regarding natural resources and ecosystem services, mainly related to water. The main objective is to integrate and involve society in the decision-making process, disseminate knowledge and empower vulnerable communities, applying the concept of social learning, and also strategize the improvement of environmental health indicators related to supply / shortage of water and sanitation, with the support of participatory GIS tool.
