Abstract

My aim is to analyze the proposal conceived by John Perry in his book Reference and Reflexivity so I can see how this proposal accounts for the Freges Puzzle. Perry provides reflexive contents as the clue to solve this problem by taking the difference of information value of sentences, which implies a difference in the cognitive value of them, as being due to semantic issues. According to Perry, different reflexive contents are embedded in co-referential sentences that speakers unconscious about the co-reference utter and for this reason they are the semantic content responsible for producing the difference on belief attitudes of speakers towards co-referential but non-transparent expressions. My idea is to analyze Perrys proposal face to objections so I can evaluate the explanatory power of his proposal. (AU)
