Abstract

This research project aims to analyze the presence of irony and grotesque as textual strategies in the poetry of Christian Morgenstern (1871 - 1914) poet, translator, playwright and writer; and Sebastião Uchoa Leite (1935 - 2003), poet, critic and translator. The irony conceives a linguistic usage, which proliferate ambiguous interpretations of the functions of poetic process, which reiterates a concept and perception of the world. The humor, either as consequence of the irony or not, is determined significate before on the reader's acumen for its identification. The ironic interdiscourse grants the denudation of cultural and social expressions, presenting a critique. In turn, the grotesque is a structure that performs in the "foreign world" or, in other words, the world reverted to the strange and to its completion it is necessary that the familiar proves to be strange and sinister. Uchoa Leite, while reporting on the characteristics of Morgenstern's poetry, embodies in his poetics some textual elements that are concurrent in their languages. There is the construction of a peculiar poetic universe, which leads the listener to reflect issues inherent to the human condition.
