Abstract

This research is related to the regular project supported by FAPESP (gant 2015/02500-6) entitled "Monitoring Systems Based on Technical of Electromechanical Impedance: New Trends and Challenges". Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems are designed to detect structural damage at an early stage, ensuring the safety of the users and reducing the maintenance costs. Among the various methods for damage detection, the electromechanical impedance (EMI) technique receive attention for its simple methodology and using inexpensive piezoelectric transducers. In the current proposal, the objective is to explore and develop signal processing techniques for signals from piezoelectric transducers considering methodologies based on the frequency response function (FRF) under conditions of low signal-to-noise (SNR). Generally, studies involving the electromechanical impedance technique are performed in laboratories under ideal conditions. However, in the practice, the contamination of signals with noise is inevitable, which can significantly influence the detection of structural damage, especially damage in initial stage. Thus, the proposed research will have an important contribution to the improvement of the electromechanical impedance technique, especially in applications with low SNR.
